OK, who stole the Soweto that we know from the TV and put that modern place with bright new shopping malls and tarred roads and shiny cars and Holiday Inns in its place?
Nice fire truck
An extremely modern shopping mall lurked there, and pounced when I least expected it, creating this urge to shop till I drop that totally overpowered my very firm resolve to go to Soccer City. Which sort of nagged at my conscience a bit, because I’d promised to go, but on the other hand I would never have met Oluchi if I hadn’t gone to the mall, so in the end it’s all good. Because Oluchi and I clicked immediately, and when she heard that I was a talent scout looking for strippers, she wanted in! I have found my first candidate
So we chatted for a while, and shopped for hours, and all the while I was explaining how the website would work, how the competition would work, etcetera. Finally she had to leave, and we made an appointment for a photoshoot on Tuesday. I don’t know who’s more excited, she or I
I really like her, she’s fun and friendly and exciting.
I continued walking around the mall, trying to find the exit where I’d left my car, (mental note: pay more attention next time. These malls are like mazes, very easy to get lost) and in the mean time just marvelling at the luxury of it all, so unexpected, so different from the Soweto that lived in my head all my life.
And of course, no shopping mall is complete without its own football.
Note: Been struggling like crazy to upload photos. I have a lot more, but I’ll do them tomorrow. I think it’s all the thunderstorms, it seems to interfere with the wireless internet.
